Volunteer

Volunteering can be very rewarding, and we are always looking for additional support.

We often require assistance with meal deliveries and admin tasks so if you have the interest and ability to volunteer regularly weekdays during the day, we’d love to hear from you.

Meals are delivered Monday to Friday between approximately 10:30 am and 1:00 pm.

We are closed evenings, weekends, public holidays, and during the Christmas-New Year period.

Your support will enhance the independence and wellbeing of older Australians and people with disabilities in your local community.

Meet some of our wonderful volunteers.

Volunteer FAQs

You can register your interest online here, or contact our local Volunteer Coordinators:

  • For delivery and driving roles please contact our Hornsby office on 02 9482 2088
  • For kitchen hand, administration roles, please contact our Turramurra office on 02 9144 2044

You will be asked to attend a short interview. This is an opportunity to explain what the role involves, talk about what positions you may be best suited and answer any questions you may have. You will be asked to provide references and police checks. These are designed to protect the clients whose homes you will be visiting.

The tasks vary depending on the position you are recruited for and any particular skills you may offer. The typical work of a Meals on Wheels field volunteer is the delivery of meals to clients using a volunteer’s own car, or acting as a partner to someone else. Most deliveries are done in pairs.

Other ways volunteers can help include helping in the kitchen to prepare meals, providing service at our Lunch Club or lending a hand with administration and general office duties.

Depending on the type of volunteering you are doing, anything from one hour a month to one or more full days a week. The choice is yours. Each hour of voluntary support is highly valued and appreciated. Please provide details regarding your availability at the initial interview.

There is an induction program for new volunteers that will introduce you to working with Meals on Wheels. There is also support available from experienced staff and volunteers, who are happy share their knowledge and advice.

You will experience the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing a vital service to the community. You will make new friends, learn new skills and undertake work with purpose. There may be some challenging moments, but remember your involvement is supporting others’ lives and making a real difference to the independence of older Australians.

The Village Chef by Meals on Wheels truly values the support it receives from its volunteers and we often hold social events, such as volunteer BBQs, to recognise the valuable contribution of our volunteers.
