More than 60 years of local care. The Village Chef by Meals on Wheels has supported local communities since 1961. What began as a Ku-ring-gai service has grown into a unified local organisation delivering meals and meaningful connection across Ku-ring-gai, Hornsby and the Northern Beaches.
Our purpose has remained steady: to help people stay nourished, connected and independent in their own homes.
Ku-ring-gai Meals on Wheels was founded in 1961 by Estelle Wren Cooper OAM, extending a concept that began in Britain during the Second World War. Estelle was a social worker employed by Ku-ring-gai Council with the support of the Ku-ring-gai Old Peoples Welfare Association.
As the need grew, a new production kitchen was funded in 1969. In 1995, the service became an independent not-for-profit organisation.
Today, The Village Chef prepares nourishing meals that support health, wellbeing and independence across our community.
We proudly support clients and communities across Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Manly and Mona Vale, while continuing to strengthen community connection through food, care and service.
As we look ahead, we remain focused on enhancing nutrition standards, strengthening community partnerships and creating more opportunities for social connection through shared food experiences.
