If you receive support through:

  • The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP):We can apply subsidised pricing with a valid My Aged Care referral code for meal services.
If you were referred directly through My Aged Care, no action is needed.
  • A Home Care Package (HCP):Your package provider must complete our referral form and grant written approval before services can begin.
Subsidised rates may apply from the start of the following month, provided approval is in place.
We recommend securing approval before submitting your registration and order.

We operate Monday to Friday, except for public holidays and the Christmas-New Year period.

Deliveries are made to most suburbs across the Northern Beaches, Ku-ring-gai, and Hornsby Shire council areas between approximately 10:30am and 12:30pm, Monday to Friday. See above for suburb-specific delivery days.

Yes – or someone does. Due to food safety regulations, meals must be handed directly to a person at the delivery address. They cannot be left unattended, even in a cooler bag or esky.

We’re also more than just a meal – our volunteer drivers offer a friendly check-in and an added layer of peace of mind with each delivery.

Instead of a set-up fee, we ask new/prospective clients to complete a registration form and submit a recurring 4-week meal plan that includes at least 12 main meals. If you’d like to trial the service, simply nominate an end date that allows for the delivery of the 12 meal minimum. If you decide to continue after the trial, just let us know and we’ll remove the end date for your plan to continue without interruption.

Having a minimum of 12 mains in the first four weeks gives, not only helps cover our administrative time, but also gives clients the opportunity to:

  • Experience how the service operates.
  • Build connections with the local volunteers.
  • Discover your favourite meals and tailor future orders.

To help us streamline operations and better support all clients, a payment method must be held on file for every account, including those on a trial (see below for details).

As part of the registration process, all clients are asked to complete a direct debit authority. For your peace of mind, any payment details you enter online via our secure payment provider, Pinch Payments, are safely stored.

Payments are processed early each month for the meals delivered during the previous month. If no meals are delivered, no payment is taken.

If you’re eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program subsidies or we have an approved agreement with your Home Care Package Manager, you’ll be charged the applicable subsidised rate.

Please note: We no longer accept pre-paid or invoiced accounts. A direct debit authority is required for all transactions. As a not-for-profit with limited resources, this approach allows us to focus more on client support and invest time in much-needed improvements. We appreciate your understanding and continued support.

We’re currently making backend improvements to support online ordering.

We appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Here are the steps to getting started:

1. Request an information pack.
2. Let us know if you’re eligible for subsidies. If you already have a My Aged Care referral code, feel free to include it with your enquiry.

  • If you’re registered with My Aged Care (MAC) and are eligible for Commonwealth Home Support Programme assistance (or need it) but don’t have a referral, call 1800 200 422 to request one. To avoid confusion, we recommend asking for a referral to “Meals on Wheels” rather than “The Village Chef”.
  • If you’re on a Home Care Package (HCP), please ask your package manager to complete our referral form to set up a split-billing arrangement. Early approval helps avoid delays.

3. The information pack includes the menu, pricing, and registration forms.
Simply complete and return both of the included forms to proceed. Once we receive them, we’ll contact you with the earliest available start date. Please allow up to 10 days for services to commence – although we may be able to start sooner.

When completing your meal plan, we recommend selecting only the days you’re usually at home. If you have an appointment, holiday or other engagement coming up, please notify your local coordinator with at least 24 business hours’ notice – by phone or email. If you can’t get through, please leave a message. Missed deliveries that haven’t been cancelled will be charged discarded in line with health regulations.

If you’re unexpectedly admitted to hospital, please ask a friend, family member, or hospital staff to contact us on your behalf.

We’re a small team, often wearing many hats while working alongside volunteers to keep things running smoothly. If you call and don’t reach us straight away, please leave a voicemail – we do return calls. You’re also welcome to email or message us.

Our office is usually staffed between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.

We’re happy to help. Contact us if you’d like to arrange a time to speak with a staff member or volunteer – we’ll do our best to find a time that works.

We usually offer Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter menus. However, there will be no new Autumn/Winter menu this year while we focus on improving our systems. We appreciate your patience.

Yes. Our menus follow the National Meal Guidelines for Older Australians, developed in partnership with the Smart Food Centre at the University of Wollongong, and are designed to support a balanced diet.

Read more about the National Guidelines here

We currently offer options that are:

  • Gluten-free (GF)
  • Dairy-free (DF)
  • Vegetarian (V)

We recognise the diverse dietary needs of our community and welcome feedback to help us continually improve our menu. With sufficient demand, we can consider introducing new items.

However, due to the constraints of our not-for-profit model, we are unable to modify individual meals to meet the broad range of dietary needs that larger commercial providers may offer. That said, we do provide the following options:

  • Gluten-free bread for sandwiches (upon request)
  • Cut-up meals (chilled meals)
  • Pureed roast meals (frozen meals)

If you have specific medical dietary requirements (e.g. soft, low fat, diabetic, low FODMAP), we recommend consulting your GP or dietitian before placing an order to confirm meal suitability. Your dietitian or health professional may be able to guide you to a caterer that can best accommodate your needs.

We no longer offer hot meal deliveries. This decision was made due to a few quality concerns – such as meals sweating when held at temperature and occasional issues with packaging seals. Many clients also prefer the flexibility of heating meals at a time that suits them, especially for dinner rather than lunch.

Meals are delivered chilled or frozen and are designed to be easily reheated in a microwave or conventional oven. Heating instructions are included on the label.

If you’re unable to safely heat your own meals, we recommend organising support through My Aged Care (1800 200 422), with help from a family member or carer if needed.

If you don’t have someone to assist you, a Care Finder from Your Side Australia Ltd (02 8405 4484) can help connect you with the support you need. This is a free service.

Our dedicated volunteers do more than deliver meals—they bring a friendly face and a regular check-in, helping clients feel connected and supported.

While they cannot assist with heating meals, running errands, or helping around the home (due to food safety, delivery schedules, and insurance limitations), you’ll sometimes find they go the extra mile with small, thoughtful gestures—like bringing in the mail on their way to the door.

If you need more hands-on support at home, My Aged Care may be able to connect you with services that can help. Call them on 1800 200 422 to learn more.

  • Be home to receive your delivery and answer the door when our volunteer arrives.
  • Notify us in advance if you do not require a meal. Meals that are prepared and delivered without notice of cancellation will still be charged.
  • Maintain sufficient funds in your account for monthly payments and update your payment details if they change.
  • Treat volunteers with respect—they generously give their time to support the service.
  • Ensure safe and easy access to your home. This includes clearly visible house numbers, keeping pets secured during delivery times, and ensuring pathways are clear and safe.
  • Keep your contact details up to date. This is especially important because, in the rare event that we’re unable to reach you or your nominated contact person and have serious concerns for your welfare, we may request a police welfare check. This can involve forced entry and potentially cause property damage, which we’d prefer to avoid. We also recommend providing more than one emergency contact.

The meal trays used for our standard meals are recyclable; however, the peel-away lids are not and should be disposed of in general waste. We encourage clients to rinse their empty trays before placing them in the paper or general recycling bin.

The plastic bags we use to deliver your meals can be returned to us for soft plastic recycling, but only if they are clean. Please note that due to collection limits with our recycling partner, we are unable to accept additional soft plastics from your home.

We welcome all feedback, including complaints, as it helps us improve the service we provide. If you have concerns about your service delivery, please let us know—we will do our best to resolve the issue promptly and respectfully.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can submit a written complaint to:
